Running for Charity

The aim of the Eastbourne Half Marathon is to raise as much money for charity as possible. Whilst getting sponsorship is far from obligatory, it is encouraged and if every runner were to raise just £20, then we would raise over £30,000!

We are very pleased to be supporting Chestnut Tree House as our main beneficiary this year. Please read about our main charity below, however you are very welcome to use the event as a 'vehicle' for raising funds for another charity close to your heart. The Eastbourne Half Marathon also gives money away to other local causes, see our over the years page to find out more.

...more about our main charities

Chestnut Tree House

Chestnut Tree House is the children's hospice for Sussex. We've been providing our services since 2003 and now care for over 300 children with life-shortening illnesses and their families, providing care at the hospice, in their home, end of life care, bereavement support and counselling. Families are never charged for the care they receive. It costs well over £3.5 million each year to provide all our care services both at the hospice and out in the community with less than 7% of our funding coming from central government. For the rest we rely on the generosity of the people of Sussex http://www.chestnut-tree-house.org.uk/

Help us celebrate 15 years of children's hospice care in Sussex and join our running team for the Eastbourne Half Marathon. Don't forget to let us know that you've registered and we'll send your Runner pack so you can start your fundraising straight away. Email us at events@chestnut-tree-house.org.uk

As a member of our Chestnut Tree House Running Team you can expect to receive an exclusive Chestnut Tree House running vest and a fundraising pack. You'll also receive invitations for charity places in some amazing runs in the South East of England.

St Wilfrid's Hospice

St Wilfrid's is a hospice based in East Sussex, providing palliative and end of life care for adults living with a terminal illness. The hospice's ongoing mission is reaching out to transform end of life care for the people of Eastbourne, Seaford, Hailsham, Uckfield, Heathfield and all the points in between. We provide specialist care for people with any progressive, advanced life-limiting illness.

We want to see a community where people talk openly about dying, live well until the end of their life and where nobody dies alone, afraid or in pain.

Our goal is to keep reaching out to all those at the end of their lives and to bring our services 'closer to you'. Last year, we supported over 1,500 people through our Inpatient Unit, Hospice at Home service, Wellbeing and Therapy teams and 24/7 Nurse Line, which took over 11,000 calls. Reaching people where they need help is central to our rehabilitative approach.

It costs more than £13,000 a day to run the hospice and provide all of its services and the majority of our income is raised by generous, kind and loyal supporters in the community who do all they can to raise the money the hospice needs to keep on providing end of life care.

If you choose to run for St Wilfrid's Hospice, we'll give you lots of fundraising support, a branded running vest and water bottle and a 'Cheer Squad' on the day to help get you over the finish line. You will also be contributing to the costs of care and helping us to reach more people in our large catchment area, who need us this year. Call the Fundraising team on 01323 434241 or email fundraising@stwhospice.org for more information or simply select us at the point of registration and we'll get in contact with you.
